Career website Dice.com, owned by DHI Group Inc., serves professionals mostly in the technology, engineering, finance, and healthcare industries. They are giving users from the UK a treat. Eligible participants who register on http://retrogamesdice.co.uk will have access to a members-only Retro Games portal. Free-to-play online games are featured on the portal.
We are proud to have been a part of the team that made the portal launch possible. For this project, we provided HTML5 games plus the registration and leaderboard systems.
The games in the portal are reminiscent of arcade and console games that children who grew up in the 1980s used to play. There are currently five web games available:
Giving away prizes to top players is a good way to encourage site visitors and inspire loyalty among users.
Accordingly, top scoring Retro Game players will receive prizes at the end of each week and month. A weekly winner gets a Retro Gamers t-shirt, while a monthly winner gets a retro bundle of awesome goodies.
To compete for prizes, users need to register and/or login. The registration and leaderboard systems track player performances and shows the highest ranked players for the week and the month.
What the client gains from investing on a game portal obviously depends on their goals. In the case of Dice UK, launching games can have the following returns on investment:
Games built with HTML5 technology are cross-platform. They can be played across all devices that have browsers. Unlike web games built with Flash, HTML5 games will work smoothly on the widest range of operating systems without the need for plugins. Sharing is made easy too, since players do not have to download the game from an app store.
Dice.com wanted a game portal that will increase loyalty among their existing users as well as convert new ones. We helped them achieve their goals by providing cool games that fit the retro theme they were going after. We also built the registration and leaderboard systems that are necessary for determining contest winners. Indeed this project can only be achieved with HTML5 game development technology.
