We co-developed a unique cricket batting game for a Japanese e-commerce company. The new mini HTML5 game was also installed within the brand’s online retail app.

Objectives

We had the following objectives:

  • Utilize fresh gameplay to match the brand’s new marketing campaign goals
  • Customize the game mechanics to add coupon codes as rewards
  • Adapt the game to fit into an e-commerce platform app

Game Changes

Several game assets were modified to fit into the brand’s marketing campaign.

  • Added brand logos throughout the game
  • Changed game images to match the client’s theme
  • Added a reward system

New Features

Aside from the in-game changes, we also added new technical capabilities

  • Record and send high scores to the client’s Application Programming Interface (API)
  • Process incoming coupon codes from the client and display them to the players
  • Plug the mini-game into the client’s mobile app

User Journey

We developed the mini HTML5 game to follow this user journey.

  1. The user sees the mini-game as one of the featured banners on the mobile app.
  2. User clicks the banner.
  3. The user registers at the start of the game.
  4. User plays the game and aims for a high score.
  5. Player score is sent to the client’s API.
  6. The user receives a coupon code.
  7. The user applies the coupon code during item checkout.

Coupon code rewards are based on the final game score. Players are rewarded with merch, gift vouchers, and discount codes.
