Lino Grad - A HTML5 game built for a multi billion dollar food company

It is our pleasure to have worked with Podravka, the world-famous food company from Croatia. Offering hundreds of products in 40 countries and 5 continents, this company has emerged to become a leading company in Europe since its establishment in 1947. Lino is their brand that specializes in food for babies and children, with over 40 varieties of purees, jams, creamy spreads, biscuits, and cereals.

We recently developed a game for the launch of the Lino Kids online portal. The portal was envisioned to be a venue where kids and kids-at-heart can learn more about the brand in an entertaining and engaging way. It includes Lino Wisdom (trivia questions interspersed across the portal), Creative Corner (DIY projects for kids to try), and of course a fun game called Lino Grad ( in english, “Lino City”).

The game features an endearing little Lino Bear who has to run through the city streets to collect Mini Pillows, which is a snack made of cereal with a creamy filling. These serve as the in-game currency to purchase items for faster and better runs through the city. Up to five items can be purchased, including a magic carpet and a hoverboard.

Players can also collect jars of Lino Lada, a popular milk and hazelnut spread. Collecting enough jars fills a bar, and reaching the bar limit gives Lino Bear a few seconds inside a bubble during which he is invincible.

The streets are littered with challenging obstacles which can be avoided by jumping over or sliding under. The player loses a life every time he hits an obstacle. Once all three lives are used up, the game ends. The players can then compare their accumulated scores with other players. The top scorers are displayed on the site, and one can sign up to have their name displayed in the rankings.

Rebranding (Reskinning)

We used the core mechanic of our pre-existing game Giant Hamster Run, and changed its aspects to give it the look and feel that our client was going for. We worked closely with them during rebranding so the game reflected the spirit of their brand accurately.

Rebranding included changing the character, background, and objects to incorporate the Lino Bear and Lino food products. We also added the ranking system to jack up the social and competitive features of the game.

This process reduced turnaround time and cost for development significantly, helping the client meet their timeline and budget.

Why HTML5

HTML5 is the only game development engine that can meet the requirements for this type of project. It is cross-platform, which means the game had to be built only once, and can then be played using any device on any operating system.

HTML5 allows users to share the game by simply forwarding a URL and without the need to download from an app store. It also lets the users play the game without having to leave the portal, giving them a seamless experience. It is truly emerging to become the platform of choice for developing branded games.

Summary

Creating this game for Podravka’s Lino food products had been a great experience for our team. This fortifies our confidence in the application of HTML5 as the best platform for branded game development. It is the only choice for any agency or brand looking for the best quality at the fraction of the time and cost for developing games using different platforms. HTML5 has now arrived and will help define the future of brand engagement.
