Case Study - HTML5 Card Game For Boost Mobile

published 10-23-2017

Alt text

Boost Mobile has been providing best-in-class value and connectivity to U.S. wireless consumers since its establishment in 2002. An award-winning mobile carrier, Boost Mobile offers customers the best unlimited plans with no annual service contracts.

We are thrilled to present you a new HTML5 game we built in partnership with Boost Mobile. It is a 3-card Monte game that was used at a tradeshow in the US. Using a branded game is a brilliant way for Boost Mobile to expand their reach and attract more potential customers. It serves as an example of the company’s mantra - Never. Stop. Playing.

Play and win prizes

Players of Boost Mobile’s 3 Card Monte had a chance to win some surprise giveaways. To participate, a user had to register their details before playing. By registering their details, users can also opt in to receive awesome offers, product updates and interesting news from Boost Mobile. The client effectively generates leads that can convert to potentially loyal customers.

Gameplay

The three-card Monte game itself is very simple. Three cards are placed face down on a table where one of the cards is the target card, in this case a Boost Mobile card. The cards are rearranged quickly to confuse the player about which card is which. The player is then given an opportunity to select one of the three cards. If the player correctly identifies the target card, the player’s score goes up. Otherwise, it’s game over.

Here is a video showcasing some gameplay.

Why HTML5?

HTML5 is the ideal technology for building a game that matches the client’s needs. All of the major consoles, handhelds, desktops, and mobiles support them - most development environments make it easy to develop cross-platform releases. It is the perfect platform for reskinning games as well.

Reskinning is the process of changing the game’s assets while keeping most of its core. The look is changed but its internal structure is mostly the same. In this instance, we reskinned our game 3 Card Monte.

What are the benefits?

With HTML5 coding, online games have never been easier to create and launch - and you can track the results of your game marketing efforts across multiple platforms. Using these types of games is an innovative approach to marketing and promotion.

Below are some of the reasons why using HTML5 games is beneficial:

  • Multi-platform - Online games are multiplatform.
  • Social-media friendly - An online game can be shared on social media networks
  • Lead generation - Users provide their details when they play
  • Customer reach - Games appeal to a wide range of users
  • High engagement - Users get involved in a fun activity with the brand
  • Web traffic increase - Customers are drawn to the company site

Summary

As customers use a variety of platforms to connect with brands, they expect friendly and fun content to engage with. Given that games are becoming a major activity on many devices, creating your own branded games is a great way to promote your business or product. Games provide consumers with an activity that is fun and interactive. This is in contrast to the more traditional forms of advertising that often do not significantly catch people’s attention.

If you too are interested in developing your own game for promotion or any other purpose, don’t hesitate to contact us.
