We recently worked with East Midland Trains, a commercial train operator in the UK. The objective is to provide entertainment to passengers via digital signages and passenger's devices.
The games are stored in a local server on board, and served via local wireless connections. Passengers can play the games either on the bigger screen digital signages, or on their own devices via a local web portal.
Besides a large screen digital signage, the trend in public transportation entertainment is moving towards a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) model. This means, the consumer brings whatever device they have, connect it to the local network via WiFi, and receive personalized content such as games.
This is where content built with HTML5 truly shines. Due to the portability of the codebase, and ease of being delivered via WiFi and web links, playing casual games has never been easier. The game can be enjoyed on smartphones, tablets, desktops and virtually any device that supports the HTML5 technology.
