A HTML5 game for IT Managers

We’re excited our recent collaboration with Solarwinds, a company which offers IT management software for large companies. The company’s mantra is that IT solutions don’t have to be complicated.

Aligned with the company vision, we have developed a marketing game for IT managers, showcasing today’s dynamic IT environment. In the course of the game, players can win prizes such as T-shirts and Nintendo game sets. Moreover, they can download free tools to help with their daily tasks.

IT Defender is a simple game designed to exhibit the challenges that IT managers currently face. At the same time, it symbolizes the idea that the technological hiccups aren’t that difficult to deal with. One just has to be in the zone and must have the right tools for the job.

Gameplay

The game starts off with bugs, viruses and invaders coming towards you from all sides. The objective of the game is to defend yourself and zap these looming setbacks by simply pressing on the arrow cursor buttons (or swiping on your smartphone / tablet device). One miss, and you’re out!

Throughout the game, the score appears at the upper portion, tallying the number of hits. Fireballs are also triggered once the power ball fills up. It’s a cool effect that eliminates all obstacles, giving players a dopamine rush.

Upper levels and new characters are unlocked as your score increases. Game gets more challenging, the higher the score, with everything coming in faster and more frequently from all sides. Full concentration and rapid reactions come in very handy at this point.

Oof! Appears the player got hit by an obstacle

When any of your adversaries reaches you, you get blown away and the game ends. Your current and best game scores are displayed on the screen with an option to check the leaderboard. Free tools are up for grabs and you can also access Solarwinds’ facebook or twitter accounts for updates.

Rebranding / Re-skinning

We created the game based on the game engine of one of our existing games, Leave Me Alone. By using a rapid prototyping reskin process, this enables us to work within our client’s time and budget considerations.

Games are customizable to adhere to your company’s overall image. Much like our client’s IT management tools, the game was built on simple, high quality and efficient terms.

Leaderboard, user registration and management

As a value added service, we provide leaderboard systems that tie in with user registration and login. The leaderboards display all-time, weekly and daily scores. This system is essential for the client to collect enough game-related data to be able to give away prizes on their own terms and conditions.

We also provide a complete CMS for our clients to manage their users, as well as export the data into user friendly formats such as CSV.

Why HTML5?

With HTML5, we managed to deliver a consistent experience across all platforms, including Windows, Mac, Android, iOS and Android. Users simply need to click on the game link via any device they’re on, and are able to access the game almost instantly.

By building and distributing on the open web, this saves time (and cost), as opposed to launching the game via App Stores (which requires separate development systems, whole lot of compliance steps with Apple/Google, and also submission lead times).
