The Wonder Vault is Oreo’s biggest ad campaign in recent years. It was conceptualized as a fantastical, Wonka-like place where new Oreo flavors are magically concocted.
We created two HTML5 games for Oreo’s Wonder Vault campaign. These were used for the brand’s outdoor promotional events in the US.
The first Oreo cookies were produced in a Manhattan factory in 1912. More than a century later, the brand has out-competed all others to become known as “the world’s favorite cookie.”
Oreo certainly didn’t get to where it is now if it wasn’t a genius at reinventing itself. The Wonder Vault marketing campaign is its latest stroke of brilliance.
The classic Oreo brand has turned to interactivity as a new marketing strategy. Across the United States, the company has been launching interactive and immersive exhibits to introduce new limited edition flavors.
Oreo lovers can also participate in the flavor creation process by submitting their ideas via social media using the hashtag #MyOreoCreation #Contest.
And since the Oreo ad campaign is all about interactivity, games are definitely in the picture.
One of the HTML5 games we created for this campaign is the Oreo Wonder Vault Maze. It is a simple maze where the player drags a cookie from the starting point until it makes its way to the Wonder Vault at the end.
A player can choose to use either of 2 Oreo variants: Birthday Cake or Salted Caramel Thins.
Once the cookie successfully reaches the vault, they get a message to enter for a chance to create the next new Oreo cookie.
Watch the game in action in the video below:
We employed HTML5 technology to build Oreo Wonder Vault Maze. It is the ideal platform for this type of project.
This is because an HTML5 game can be easily accessed through any web browser. Deployment across several devices is as easy as entering a URL. There is no need to download an app or plugin.
The game is also compatible across different devices (smartphone, tablet, desktop, digital display) and operating systems (Linux, Windows, iOS).
Marketing strategies are evolving in response to people’s appetite for interactivity. Brands have to give their target audience an experience and not just try to sell to them.
Oreo is taking this to heart, and has put interactivity at the forefront of their Wonder Vault ad campaign. One of the ways they are doing it is by engaging their customers with the use of HTML5 games.
We feel proud to have helped Oreo build the Oreo Wonder Vault Maze game. We were part of the process from conceptualization, design, development, testing, and deployment.
