Spill the Milk is the second HTML5 game we built for the Oreo Wonder Vault ad campaign, which is raising the bar in interactive advertising. Similar to the Oreo Wonder Vault Maze game, this was used for Oreo’s outdoor promotional events in the US.
We all know about the popular way of eating Oreo cookies–twist, lick, and dunk. The last part of course refers to dipping, or dunking, the cookie into a glass of milk.
Every generation of Oreo lovers since the cookies were first baked in 1912 is familiar with this practice. But the tagline “Milk’s favorite cookie” came out only in 2004.
People have probably been consuming Oreos with milk for a long time. And that now-famous ad slogan has made the partnership between the beverage and the world’s best selling cookie brand official.
In this game we created for Oreo’s Wonder Vault campaign, we featured elements that are traditionally associated with fresh milk: a milk jug and milk bottles.
The game is a 3D physics-based action game. It is inspired by the bottle toppling games that are popular in carnivals and fairs.
Three milk bottles are stacked atop an old metal milk jug. The player has to topple them all down by throwing baseballs at them. A ball is launched by holding it and flicking it towards the target. Each round is limited to only 3 balls.
The player wins if they successfully knock down all the bottles with 3 balls or less.

The popularity of 3D HTML5 games has been skyrocketing, thanks to increasingly great quality graphics made possible by WebGL. WebGL is the web standard for rendering (i.e. displaying) 3D content in browsers.
Games built within the HTML5 framework, even those rendered in 3D, can be played on any device with a web browser. This is why they are perfect for outdoor marketing events. A single build of the game can be rapidly deployed across different devices and operating systems.
Oreo’s Wonder Vault ad campaign is proving to be a tour de force in marketing and advertising. The company has employed exceptionally engaging and immersive media, both physical and digital, that take interactivity to a higher level.
